In the month of February saw shipping picking up with a total of 7032 tonnes shipped through the port, up 2300 tonnes on February's figures with three cargo's of fertiliser in and one cargo of rapeseed out. I am told that all the signs for March look good
The first ship to arrive was the Vela from Klaipeda; she arrived on the 3rd. with 2636 tonnes of fertiliser, sailing on the 11th. in ballast to sea for orders. The next ship to arrive was the Gerda. she arrived on the 6th. from Ghent with 1200 tonnes of fertiliser, she left on the 9th. in ballast also to sea for orders. The 14th. saw the arrival of the Oostuoorne from Ghent with 2098 tonnes of fertiliser, sailing on the 17th. in ballast for Hamburgh.
The last ship to arrive was the Swift from Fuxborough on the 24th in ballast to load 1098 tonnes of rapeseed for Antwerp, sailing on the 25th.
Of the four ships in the dock during February, two putting to sea for orders showing the depressed state of the coastal shipping trade at present although trade appears to be picking up at present.
This month’s photograph is the Oostuoorne. She is 2800 tonnes dwt. she is 91m loa. beam of 14m. and draft of 3.8m. She was built in 11996.
